The Event

100k, what a fantastic milestone! You will ride through magnificent countryside from one world famous tourist destination to another using private sealed forestry roads, SH5, peaceful country roads and even parts of the famous Ironman course finishing inside the Taupo Events Centre. A great way to spend a weekend, with the event totally organised for you. The event hosted close to 3800 competitors in 2009 and event organisers are expecting to exceed 4,000 riders in 2010.

Course Description

From Ward Ave, Rotorua the first stage heads south on Fenton St for 3kms before turning left onto private forest roads for 7km, including a good steady climb for approx 3km. The course then joins SH5 and travels south through rolling countryside for 27km turning left into Reporoa Rd. The first relay transfer point/aid station is located 2kms along Reporoa Rd at Reporoa Primary School, (Massey Rd entrance), a total of 39km.

Flat, fast country roads for the next 31kms, which include the following Birch Rd, Longview Rd, Campbell Rd, Forest Rd, Sangro Rd, Strathmore Rd, East Rd and Broadlands Rd before the second relay transfer point/aid station at Broadlands School. The final 30km stage is relatively flat for 20km then a short climb before the final downhill run to the finish on Tauhara Road near the Taupo Events Centre.

Participants must wear an approved safety NZ cycling helmet while riding in this event. All road rules must be obeyed at all times and all roads are OPEN to vehicle traffic. Riders must keep left at all times.

Start

The Avanti Rotorua - Taupo 100k Flyer event will start at 9.30am, from Ward Ave, adjacent to the Kingsgate, Rotorua

All riders must be at the start line by 9.20am

For safety reasons the following format will be in place for the start of the event. Riders will be requested to position themselves in their estimated finish time category on the start line (there will be signs to indicate the groupings). This is essential for the safety of riders, as riders will be riding in a pack of similar ability and therefore minimize the need to pass others.

1) All tandems start.
2) All riders sub 2hours 30 min
3) All riders 2 hours 30 min - 2 hours 45 min
4) All riders 2 hours 45 min - 3 hours
5) etc

Social Start: Any riders expecting to complete the course in a time over 4hours 45mins are requested to start at 8.30am. Please be on the start line by 8.20am.

The lead vehicle will not exceed an average speed of 22km per hour and no rider is permitted to pass this vehicle from this start group. Instant disqualification will occur if a rider from the special start group passes this vehicle.

Please note:All competitors will receive a timing transponder at registration and your time will be calculated from when you cross the start line so that no rider is disadvantaged by starting in the correct start zone. First Male & Female rider across the line will be acknowledged however all grade placings will be calculated on transponder time.

Finish
The 2010 Avanti Rotorua - Taupo 100k Charity Flyer event will finish on Tauhara Road, near the Taupo Events Centre, Taupo. Hot showers and changing facilities are available within the Events Centre.

Prizegiving

This will take place inside the Taupo Events Centre at 3.00pm. You must be present to be eligible for spot prizes. Award winners must be present at prize giving to be eligible to receive their prizes.
No prizes or trophies will be sent out.

Spot Prizes/Giveaways
There are over $100,000 worth of spot prizes and giveaways. These include sponsors products, with over 600 minor spot prizes. The major spot prizes include: Five Avanti bikes, a Suzuki SJ50 scooter, an Escapade Q-Kayak, Ezi-Grip bike racks, Phillips hometrainers, Timex watches, Kingsgate Hotel accommodation packages.

Carbo Boost Buffet
For $18 per person a selection of delicious Pasta's will be available from 5pm - 9pm Friday at the Kingsgate Hotel Rotorua's Concert room. A final carbo load before the big day.

Reservations are not required - pay at reception on the night.
